La Travesia de Enrique

Pages:124-128

Do immigrants get help for a long period of time?

I belive they do. They need to get a long rest for that long journey and need to get money to survive through the whole trip.

“An immigrant came to this lady named Ortega asking for help. She let him stay at his house to work and save up for the trip for nin months.”

Do Mexicans change of opinion on sending back Central Americans back to their country?

Yes. Some people see them suffer and change of opinion on sending them back.

“Aguirre changed of opinion by watching a twenty-one year old immigrant loose his leg by trying to get on the train.”

Pages:129-132

Does the police care in the situation the immigrant is in?

No. They will do anything to catch even if they are allomst half dead.

“A bullet ingured an arm of an immigrant girl of 17 or 18 years old. She was 8 months pregnant from a Mexican police that raped her in Chiapas.”

Do people stand up for these immigrants ?

There are people that stand up for them. People see them suffer and help them out.

“Reyes, that walked two hours and a half to Nogales, to yell at the Mayor ” We are humans. We should treat them in a human way. It is okay to send them back but not shoot them and hit them.”

La Travesia de Enrique

Pages : 109-117

Do all immigrants pray to God ?

I think only some people pray to God to get to the Norh .

“Algunos migrantes recurren a una plegaria especial a la Santisima Trinidad, la oracion a las Tres Divinas Personas.

english : Some immigrants think of the Holy Trisism , the prayer to the Three Divine Person.

Do people trow food to the top of the trains ?

They do to help out the immigrants that are hungry from their journey to the U.S.

“Las familias arrojan tricotas, tortillas, pan y boellas plasticas llenas de limonada.”

english: The families trow clothing ,tortillas, bread, bottles full of limonade.

Pages: 117-120

Do cops make plans to capture the immigrants?

I say that they do make plans to capture them or get to their hidding spots.

“There the police department are planning on how to captuer the immigrants in an easy way and capture many as possible.”

Do immigrants eat everyday ?

No they don’t . They suffer in their journey with out any type of food unless any person gives them food.

“Time back, an immigrant knock on the door of a neighbor and said ” Please give me anything.”

Pages:120-124

Do immigrants sleep in the churches of Mexico for further protection over night?

They do. If immigration is looking for them then they won’t feel safe sleeping on the streets.

“There are hundreds of immigrants laying on the floor sleeping on the yard.”

Do police officers care if they are in the church or to take them away?

No. They will get anywhere to capture the immigrants and send them back to their country.

“The pope and other hundred of people that congregated around the conflict demanded the police officers to let them go.”

La Travesia de Enrique

Pages : 91-95

Should immigrants hide their property in their hats or anywhere they can ?

I think they shouldn’t because they get thier property stolen .

“A muchos immigrantes les han robado las gorras , asi que se envuelve la cabeza con una camisa.”

english : Many immigrants have had thier hats stolen , there is where they hide thier shirt.

Should immigrants carry thier own weapons with them while crossing over to the United States ?

I think they should to proctect themselves from the gansters that steal from them.

“Enrique esta en el tren con El Brujo y otros dos pandilleros de la MS que cargan machetes.”

english : Enrique is on the train with El Brujo (The Wizard) and other two gang members of the MS that carry machetes.

Pages : 95-105

Why do immigrants fall of the train if the train is their only good and fast transportation they have ?

I believe that they fall maybe because they are scared of the gang members that go up to the trains and steal from them.

“Algunos se quedan dormidos y se resbalan; otros son arrojados del tren por los pandilleros que controlan los techos. “

english : Some stay asleep and fall off ; others are thrown off the train by the gang members that control the celling of the trains.

Do immigrants suffer from the train?

I think that the immigrants do suffer from the train because they could of gotten their harms or legs cut off by the train’s wheels.

“En el hospital, casi todos explica a Olga que habrian prferido que el tren los matara en lugar de dejarlos asi.”

english : In the hopital, almost every pacient explain to Olga that they prefer that the train would of kill them than leaving them as they are without no arms or legs.

Pages : 105-109

Do some people care for immigrants in Mexico?

“Olaga baña a los pacientes. Cocina. Les propociana pildoras para el dolor.”

english : Olga showers the pacients. Cooks. Gives them painkillers for the pain.

Do women get rapped during their journey to the U.S.?

I belive that they do because gangs take advantage of them being to tired.

“Wendy, que es hondureña, es una del gran numero de muchachas migrantes que dicen haber sido violadas durante su travesia al norte por Mexico para llegar a los Estados Unidos.”

english : Wendy, that is Honduran, is one of the great numbers of immigrant teenaged girls that say they have been reapped while the journey to the north through Mexico to get to the U.S.

What Makes A Good Friend?

  • Trust Worthy
  • Generous
  • Protective
  • Nice  Personality
  • Caring
  • Big Hearted
  • Funny
  • Understanding

An  Understanding  friend  understands  any  bad  good  situation  and  gives  you  advice  to  what  ever  you  need  advice  to.  This  trait  is  important  because  your  friend  shows  that  he  cares  about  you .  If  a  friend  did  not  have  this  trait  then  he/she  will  be  just  a  known  person  that  you  see  at  shcool  but  never  talk  to.

A  trust  worthy  friend  would  be  trusted.  You  will  have  confidence  on  that  person .  You  are  able  to  tell  him/her  your  secrets  or  problems  with  the  cofidence  that  he/she  won’t  go  out  to  the  world  telling  others.  If  the  friend  did  not  have  this  triat  then  there  won’t  be  much  of  friendship  because  you  won’t  confidence  on  him/her  on  anything.

A  caring  friend  would  be  the  right  friend .  The  friend  would  be  with  you .  That  show  that  he/she  cares  about  you .  If  you  have  friend  that  is  there  when  you  are  having  good  times  and  bad  times  then  that  friend  really  cares  about  you .  If  the  friend  did  not  have  this  characteristic  then  he/she  would  not  even  care  to  talk  to  you  because  he/she  won’t  about  you .

I  think  that  Victor’s  loves  him .  He  left  Victor  and  his  wife  because  he  was  mad  and  maybe  drunk .  He  made  a  mistake  like  everyone  else  but  becuase  of  that  mistake  it  doesn’t  mean  that  he  will  stop  loving  him .  Plus  he  always  talked  about  him  and  that  fire  he  caused .  I  think  that  Victor  does  love  his  father  he  just  didn’t  like  what  he  did .  He  might  of  been  confused  on  action  and  real  love .  He  hated  his  actions  but  loved  him  because  that  was  his  father .  I  think  that  Victor  should  forgive  his  father  because  everyone  makes  mistakes ,  big  ones  and  small  ones .  No  one  is  perfect  and  I  think  that  if  no  one  is  perfect  then  everyone  deserves  a  second  chance  to  make  it  better .  I  think  that  Thomas  and  Victor  are  good  friends .  In  all  the  story  in  any  way  Victor  protected  Thomas ,  and  Thomas  always  told  him  stories  to  cheer  him  up .  After  Thomas  gave  Victor  the  money  to  go  get  his  father  ashes  Victor  changed  back  to  being  nice  to  him  and  comprehensive  with  him .

Student Free Speech Issues

What  is  freedom  of  expression ?

It  is  the  right  to  express  thier  beliefs, thoughts, ideas and emotions about different issues without  worring  about  the  government  trying  to  prevent  it .  The  aswer  to   the  question  is  that  we  can  express  what  ever  we  want  on  what  we  want .  Like  religion ,  news ,  ideas ,  and  etc.  I  agree  with  this  right  because  we  have  the  opportunity  to  express  ourselves  on  what  ever  the  matter  is  .

Can  students  wear  clothing  with  profanity ?

Students  can’t  wear  clothing  with  profanity messeges  because  the  Court explained that “schools  must  teach  by  example the  shared  values  of  a  civilized  social  order.”  I  believe  that  students  should  not  wear  clothign  with  profanity  because  it  just  shows  that  they  just  want  to  follow  that  profanity  than  studing  and  getting  a  career .  Then  it  brings  problems  as  well  such  as  gangs ,  drugs ,  and  etc.

Pledge of Allegiance and Freedom of Speech

Posted February 25, 2008 by chino1
Categories: American Dream

Issue  was  that  a  two  boys  refused  to  say  the  pledge  of  alligence  and  got  punished  for  it .  One  of  them  had  to  stay  out  in  the  rain  for  15 mins.  and  the  other  boy  had  to  stay  for  detention after  school .  These  issues  took  place  in  Seattle  city  and  San  Diego  city .  These  issues  happend  in  the  year  1998 .  The  issues  won  the  victory  for  not  saying  the  pledge .  The  students  sewed  the  school  for  the  punishments  they  did  when  in  the  law  it  is  said  that  we  have  freedom  of  speech.  I  would  give  all  of  my  reasonings  for  having  the  freedom  speech .  We  get  the  freedom  for  saying  or  not  wanting  to  say  anything  including  the  pledeges  said  in  the  U.S.

Another issue  was  that  the  phrase  “under God”  was  used  in  the  pledge .  This  issue  was  taken  back  in  1954 .  it  took  place  in  the  U.S.  Constitution .  This  was  all  war  between  people  and  the  Constitution  over  a  phrase .  The  Constitution  said  that  they  were  going  to  keep  the  phrase  because  no  one  in  the  U.S.  was  forced  to  say  the  pledge  of  alligence .  I  personally  believe  that  they  shouldn’t  have  added  to  the  pledge  becasue  they  first  said  that  there  was  freedom  of  religion  and  all  of  a  sudden  they  add  a  one  type  religious  phrase .

A Boy Without A Flag

“I felt humiliated and alone. Miss Marti’s reptile face kept appearing in my notebook, her voice intoning “Let me tell you, you’re nothing.” Yeah, right. Just what horrible hole did she crawl out of? Were those people really Puerto Ricans? Why should a Puerto Rican salute the American flag?”

In  the  this  quote  a  little  boy  does  not  want  to  salute  the  American  flag  becasue  he  was  Puerto Rican and  he  believe  that  he  had  the  freedom  to  choose  between  saluting   the  flag  or  not .  I  think  that  the  boy  is  in  the  right .  If  he  is  not  American  in  the  first  place  he  doesn’t  to  salute  another  that  flag  that  doesn’t  represent  him .  And  don’t  Americans  say  that  this  country  is  a  free  country ?

“He leaned back in his chair. ‘We have rules, all of us. There are rules even I must live by. People who don’t obey them get disciplined. This will all go on your record…Why ruin it…this is a simple case of rules and regulations…That means you follow the rules, no matter what you think of them.”

In  the  story  the  teachers  are  forcing  the  boy  to  salute  the  flag ,  but  the  boy  would  not  salute  it  even  though  it  went  to  his  school  record. This  situation  seems  unfair  becasue  if  america  gives  freedom  then  why  do  americans  force  kids  to  salute  the  American  flag  when  they  don’t  want .

“They spoke of dignity and democracy while teaching Puerto Ricans how to cling to the great coat of that powerful northern neighbor (America).”

In  the  quote  it  says  that  they  teach  them  Puerto Ricans  to  hold  on  and  depend  on  the  U.S. ,  but  at  the  same  time  they  teach  about  standing  up  for  themselves.  This  really  doesn’t  make  sense .  Americans  teach  them  to  stand  for  themselves  but  then  they  teach  other  non-americans  to  depend  on  American .  It  is  not  really  that  of  dependent  life  if  you  depend  on  someone .  Isn’t  that  what  education  tries  to  teach  students.

“I hated myself. I wiped my face desperately, trying not to make a spectacle of myself. I was just a kid, a tiny kid. Who the hell did I think I was? I’d have to wait until I was older, like my father, in order too have ‘convictions.’”

Right  now  the  kid  feels  like  he  was  a  faliure  to  what  he  has  cuased  or  done .  I  think  that  he  was  not  a  failure .  I  think  he  was  a  breave  little  soldier  that  is  proud  to  be  a  Puerto Rican .  This  is  not  being  a  failure .  This  shows  pride  for  his  country .

“If what I did was so bad, why did I feel more ashamed of him [my father] than I did of myself?”  His  father  got  dragged  to  school  to  talk  to  the  principal  about  the  problem .  His  father  was  the  one  that  told  him  to  be  proud  to  be  a  Puerto  Rican  and  not  do  what  others  tell  you  be .  But  when  he  talked  to  the  principal  he  gave  his  back  on  him  and  gave  all  the  reasoning  to  the  principal .  He  felt  felt  more  ashamed  of  his  father  than  what  he  has  done  becasue  part  was  his  father  doning  all  the  action  for  telling  him  advice  that  he  followed .  I  would  too  feel  ashamed  if  my  father  did  this  to  me .  I  mean  that  because  every  kid  always  wants  to  be just  like  his  father  but  when  getting  attacked  by  getting  the  person’s  back  like  that ,  you  would  never  accomplish  that .  I  my  self  would  not  salute  the  american  flag  if  I  was  the  narrator  because  if  I  am  not  american  but  am  another  kind  of  nationality  then  I  would  be  proud  to  be  what  ever  nationality  I  am .  I  would  not  salute  another  nationality  flag ,  I  would  respect  it  but  not  salute  it . I  believe  that  the  narrator  is  a  good  american  because  he  fought  for  his  rights  like  that  americans  did  in  history .  That  is  all  U.S.  History  about  .  Americans  fighting  for  rights .

Native American Creation Stories

I  believe  that  the  world  came  from  God’s  creation .  I  know  this  because  of  the  teachings  the  church  gives  me .  I  believe  that  the  first  people  came  from  him  as  well .  I  know  this  because  I  believe  in  the  Holy  Bible  and  the  bible  says  it .  To  me  it  does  matter  how  the  world  and  people  were  created  because  there  is  no  other  explanation  that  proves  or  tells  where  people  and  the  world  was  created .

The  Choctaw  believe  that  the  world  and  people  were  created  by  a  this  hill  like  named   Nanih Wiya .  They  believe that  they  people  crawled  out  of  this  hill  from  this  cave  and  then  saw  light  and  followed  it  out  and  then  people  were  created .  The  Comanche believe  that  a  Great  Spirit  created  the  world  and  the  people .  They  believe  that  the  spirit  picked  up  dust  from  the  four  directions  and  created  the  people  and  the  world .  The  Creeks  believe  that  the  world  was  originally  was  underwater .  They  also  believe  that  the  only  land  above  water  was  a  hill  called  Nunne Chaha ,  and  on  that  hill  there  was  a  house ,  wherein  lived  Esaugetuh Emissee (”master of breath”) .  He  then  created  humanity  from  the  clay  of  the  hill .

The  stories  do  have  common  elements .  There  really  no  major  differences  between  these  stories .  It  seems  like  the  stories  could  be  true .  They  all  have  familiar  reasons  from  different  places .  One  of  the  humans  have  to  know  or  see  how  it  was  created  and  at  least  talk  to  the  creator  once .  These  stories  do  tell  me  about  these  people  that  believe  in  it .  It  tells  me  that  they  believe  on  a  god .  There  is  no  way  to  know  the  true  story  of  creation  because  there  is  no  one  alive  that  was  there  that  saw  the  creation  be  formed  in  this  world .  I  don’t  think  my  views  are  more  correct  from  other  views  because  to  me  it  depends  on  how  other  people  see  it  being  created .  It  is  a  belief  not  a  fact .
